First Semester Book Report Scoring Guide

For a single book read in two weeks:

BOOK REPORT (200 points total for outline-based report)

 

 

Format BONUS:   40            Typed 1” margins, double-spaced, 12-pt, according to format, no erasures/cross-outs

(A)                           30            Typed 1” margins, double-spaced, 12-pt, according to format, may have erasures/cross-outs, or SINGLE SPACED

                               

               

Format 10              20            Handwritten neatly in dark black/blue ink, double-spaced, no erasures/cross-outs, a clean, easy read

(B)                           10            Handwritten in dark blue/black ink with no erasures/cross-outs , single-spaced but a fairly easy read

2              Handwritten in dark blue/black ink with erasures/cross-outs, not a clean read

FATAL   Handwritten with erasures/cross-outs, difficult to read – Report returned to you UNREAD and UNGRADED!

 

 

Assignment 20      40            Report  shows student has researched book’s theme beyond assignment, or shows exceptional effort beyond grade level

                                36            Shows student has thoroughly read the book and completely understands its themes at age-appropriate level

28            Report shows student has read the book and understands the important points, but missed some themes

24            Report shows student has read the book but missed some important points

20            Report shows student has done some reading, but not much

1              Report indicates student has probably not read the book

 

 

Assignment 20      40            Report follows the assignment, indicating student understands what is required and goes creatively beyond it

36            Report follows the assignment, indicating student understands what is required to express understanding

32            Report follows the most important points of the assignment required to show understanding of the book

24            Report follows some points of the assignment, but largely misses the point of what was required

1              Work submitted does not follow assignment guidelines required at all
